Tesoro in Guilderland

Just a quick post on Tesoro in 20 Mall (Guilderland). We went a couple weeks ago for lunch and enjoyed it. As I understand things, the chef from Lombardo's took over this place (it was Nicole's Italia). Nicole's was good but Tesoro is better. It's like having Lombardo's close to home. Guilderland is developing a great array of restaurants.

I grew up going to Lombardo's for special occasions, and it was geat, but the past few times I went it was simply disappointing. My 21st birthday is coming up and I want someplace to go for dinner, so it sounds like this is definitely going to be the place. What's the atmosphere like?

I haven't been to Tesoro in 2-3 months now. When I was there last, the atmosphere had not changed much from when it was Nicole's. The food is very much like what Lombardo's had in the past. A few other places to try for something special are D'Raymonds in Loudonville, Aromi d'Italia in Star Plaza, and Mezza Notte on Western just east of Route 155. Keep in mind that Mezza Notte is pricey.

I don't think I answered your atmosphere question adequately. There is a bar on the right as you walk in. During summer months there is outdoor seating, though it's looking out on the parking lot. The interior is attractive but not over the top fancy. Lombardo's, by contrast, has a distinctive look, like it's from the old days or something. Tesoro looks like an ordinary restaurant.

Sounds perfect to me! Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. :)

By the way, this blog is absoutely amazing, I hope you keep it going! You write from a "real" person's point of view, which is great. I really dislike when these fancy restaurant review people complain about places like Tosca in Troy, and I go there and I'm think, "This is the most amazing thing I've ever experienced, how can someone find anything wrong here?"
